Just picked up my 1 y/o Red Heeler mix from Cheri’s 2 week train and board program and I could not believe the improvements that took place in that amount of time! Before the program we struggled with pulling and jumping when on a leash, constant destruction around the house and no self regulation skills whatsoever. My dog Jack Black has been coming here since he was a puppy. I went to a 4-class basic obedience training program with him, but Cheri has reinforced those basic training ideas and multiplied them ten-fold! Jack is the most well-mannered dog I know. He's unflappable around other dogs, he sits, stays and follows every command I give him. Cheri even worked with Jack to resolve his initial anxiety around kids because I had two small kids when I first got Jack and she knew that he had to be 100% trustworthy in this regard. Cheri is amazing with dogs, even the ones she spends limited time with! I know COVID has forced many people to keep their dogs home and this has created behavioral problems for these dogs and their owners, but I've seen Cheri do magic and really help dogs and their people alike!
My husband and I recently went to a local shelter and adopted a beautiful brindle boxer mix. We were so excited but quickly discovered he had an indomitable spirit and we were out of our depth. We needed help quickly helping this, two month old in an eight month old's body, puppy learn proper training and socialization. We researched several places and felt the most comfortable with Big Dogs Daycare and Training. Cheri picked up my call right away, answered my questions, and set expectations. I toured the facility prior to dropping Toby off and found everything to be clean, organized, and very dog friendly. We selected the two week Board and Train program. The results are fabulous. Toby has learned a great set of commands and is a perfect gentleman on his walks now. We really couldn't be happier and we have Cheri at Big Dogs Daycare and Training to thank for it!
Cheri worked with both of our pups. We have one pup who was antisocial and her reactions where aggression first ask questions later, she was 9 going on 10 and no other trainers would work with her. Cheri did not believe our pup was to old to learn new things, which was so encouraging to hear. Over eight 30 minute sessions Cheri was able to help our pup learn how to think her way out of situation that made her uncomfortable instead of attacking the other dogs, along with learning how to relax, and give signals to other dogs she is uncomfortable without injuring them. For our other pup (who is 3yrs) over 4 one hour drop off sessions Cheri and her team where able to teach our other pup basic behavior tools to help us have both pups living a better calmer life together in our home. We are very happy with the results and tool we now have to help our fur babies live a happy healthy life.
We have a 3 yo choc lab named Beau. Staying home during the pandemic and not being around many other dogs or being properly trained from a young age caused him to develop some bad habits and he had little self control. We started with a few daycare days and he always came home happy and tired and excited to go back. We decided to do the 2 week board and train and are so grateful we did! Cheri knows how to handle dogs and bring out the best in them. Beau is a handful to say the least. Before training he would pull like crazy on the leash, jump up on counters, steal food, bark incessantly at the window when people/dogs walked by, and grab personal items around the house to get attention. He did not understand how to stay or heel and was always overactive. AFTER training he is a MUCH CALMER dog. We have had him home a little over a week and finally feel like we don't have to constantly keep up on what he's getting into. He knows the boundaries (definitley tested them a little, but is responsive now), and can sit, stay, heel, come. We can actually put a treat at his feet (see pic!) and he will wait until we give permission to eat it!! Even my 8 & 11 yo boys can give him the commands.
The counter surfing has almost completely stopped. We even saw him jump up out of habit and catch himself without us saying anything! He got right down because he remembered that wasn't ok. Same with the barking at the window. He starts and then quickly stops on his own or when we quickly remind him that's a NO. And now when he grabs a shoe or other item we can tell him NO and to sit, and he surrenders right away instead of running around and not listening. Those were things we were so impressed by because those habits were so horrible with him. He is so strong and has so much energy that he often wants to pull on walks especially when seeing other dogs, but gets in line when we use the commands. We are SO HAPPY with his progress and can't wait to take him back to keep up the training practice. We have been to another doggy daycare that only gave him kennel cough and a bunch of scratches because of the overcrowding and little supervision. We were tentative at first because of that experience, but we now know how a quality dog business should run. Thank you Cheri!
Week Board and Training with Cheri is worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY! Our aggressive Pitbull Bailey is a rescue - she's been with us a year and is now about two years old. Since she is very reactive, we have been keeping her away from other dogs. I was able to keep up with Bailey's progress on Instagram while on our two-week vacation. She went from growling and wanting to attack Pax (Trainer's Husky), to slowly meeting new dogs across the fence, to playing with ALL SOCIAL DOGS for three days. She even stopped her aggression in protecting her dog food. I cried tears of happiness. My baby girl has a new outlook on life and is happy to go back to daycare and keep up with her progress.
